We entered Croatia around midday, with the idea to drive through as fast as possible (in time) and head towards Bosnia.
Midday also means lunchtime.  Around 2 o’clock in the afternoon we stopped at a roadside restaurant to fill our stomachs.  If only we knew what would happen in the next hours we could have stayed longer or skipped lunch at all…

Coming out of a blind right hand corner, me riding in first position, followed by Dennis, Ad and Koen, I saw a car coming our way, more on our side of the road than on the correct side.  Immediately I performed an evasive maneuver, trying not to hit the car by going to as far as possible to the right, driving at a speed of merely 45 km/h.  Instantly I thought, knowing there were 3 others behind me that this has got to go wrong somehow.  I looked in my mirror, seeing Dennis doing the same as me and see Ad sliding on the ground towards the car.  Not good!  Not good at all!  Big big shit!!!
I give a signal to Dennis to turn around and when we came back at the accident scene we found this:

Ad in front of the car, the car ‘hurt’ also and the bike laying in the middle of the road.  At first it looked worse than it was.  Almost immediately Ad started moving again, although a little bit confused…  The women (driving the car) was in a panic, not that our friend was on the  ground but that her car was damaged…  Took us about half an hour and the help from some locals to calm her down and assure her that the car was the least of her/our problem, the damage will be covered by Ad’s/her insurance anyway.

When Ad was somewhat conscious again he told us that he thought he might have broken his leg.  From the crash itself, he couldn’t remember a thing.
His trip was over, that was for sure…  In hospital they confirmed his leg was broken.

So, Croatia didn’t bring us much luck.  As we lost a lot of time we decided to take the new (European funded) highway south to get to Herzegovina, we really wanted to see Mostar…
