From a non-S to an S (with ABS)

Initially when I bought the bike I had the idea I really needed the ABS for safety reasons.  I had to give up 5cm of travel, which was available at the S version of the KTM Adventure.

As all/offroading became more and more a passion, I missed these extra 5cm (bottoming out, getting stuck on trees, …).

After some investigation on the internet I came up with a post on the Adventure Rider forum, which listed the parts needed to do an ‘easy’ conversion.

These parts are (KTM part numbers):

  • 2 x 48600226 (alu tube for fork)
  • 2 x 48600241S1 (Hydro stop for fork)
  • 1 x 50180161 (Spacer/rebound disc for shock)
  • 1 x 91210022 (spring for shock)

If one wants to keep the original non-S springs in the fork, an extra spacer (2cm) is needed (hand made), and of course the side- and center-stand need to be made longer.

Tomorrow Katie is going to the shop to get all these parts fitted.  When it is finished, I will have a new bike, and will be even going faster than before!
